Chapter Review

 Today I want to tell you a little bit about a chapter I read in a book called Code Complete, Second Edition. Code Complete, Second Edition is written by Steve McConnell and it was published by Microsoft Press in 2004. I chose this book to read because it seemed interesting and I thought I could learn some important and useful information from this book. I also thought this book would be very timely for my information processing studies. 

Chapter four in this book is about key construction decisions. This includes ,for example, choosing a suitable programming language for your program, understanding your location on the technology wave and the importance of programming conventions. As the chapter’s title says, this chapter goes through some important decisions you have to make before doing the actual programming. In this chapter there are also short descriptions of multiple programming languages. 

I found this chapter quite interesting since I have wanted to learn about different programming languages for a while. This chapter really helps you get an understanding of differences between programming languages. The descriptions explain what the language is typically used for, when was it developed and if it was founded on any other language. After reading the descriptions, you have a good understanding of the weaknesses and strenghts of different languages. If you ever find yourself wondering the differences between programming languages, I highly recommend reading this chapter. The importance of programming conventions is also highlighted in this chapter. Programming conventions are kind of a set of guidelines and their purpose is to reduce the complexity of the code so it’s easier to understand. Programming conventions can also reduce mistakes in the code. 

I think this chapter contains some very useful information about programming. It makes you realize that there are important decisions you have to make before writing the code and also highlights the effects of these decisions. I would recommend reading this chapter if you have any interest in programming.
